Overview

This Privacy Policy describes how Pinkod IT Solutions Ltd ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use Markday ("the App") on your iOS device.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. Markday is designed with a privacy-first, on-device approach — your countdowns and personal preferences live on your device and, optionally, in your personal iCloud account. We do not operate any backend servers and we do not create user accounts.

Data We Collect

Pinkod, the developer of Markday, does not operate any backend servers and does not receive your countdown data, display name, or app settings. Markday is built around an on-device, privacy-first model. The categories below describe every type of data the app handles, where it physically lives, and — for the single category that does leave your device for processing by a third party — exactly what is processed and by whom. We list these categories under the heading "Data We Collect" to align with Apple's App Privacy terminology, even though most of them are never received by us.

Countdown Data Display Name App Settings Purchase / Entitlement Status
  • Countdown Data — on your device, and (only if you opt in) your own iCloud: Event names, target dates, icons, group labels (e.g. Birthdays, Work, Travel), accent colours, reminder offsets, repeat-yearly flag, optional notes, archive state, and creation timestamps. Stored locally on your device. If you enable iCloud Sync, this data is also stored in your own private iCloud account via Apple's iCloud. We never receive or have access to it.
  • Display Name — on your device: An optional first name you may enter during onboarding. Used solely to render the dashboard greeting ("Good morning, [Name]"). Stored on your device and, if you opt in, synced to your other Apple devices via Apple's iCloud key-value sync. We never receive it.
  • App Settings — on your device: Appearance preference (system / light / dark), master notifications toggle, iCloud Sync toggle, language preference, and feature toggles. Stored locally and, if you opt in, synced across your Apple devices via Apple's iCloud key-value sync. We never receive them.
  • Purchase / Entitlement Status — processed anonymously by RevenueCat: Apple App Store purchase receipts and your Markday Pro entitlement status are processed by RevenueCat, a third-party payments provider, using an anonymous, auto-generated device identifier that is not linked to your name, email, or Apple ID. This is the only data category that leaves your device for a third party other than Apple, and the only reason it appears under "Data Collected" on Markday's App Store privacy label. Markday Pro is a one-time purchase ("Lifetime") — there is no subscription or recurring billing. We do not store or have access to your payment details.
  • Notification Schedules — on your device only: Reminder schedules you configure for each countdown are stored on your device and delivered by iOS Local Notifications. No push notification server, push token, or remote backend is involved.
Markday does not ask for or transmit your email address, phone number, location, contacts, photos, advertising identifier (IDFA), or any account credentials. No account registration is required to use Markday. Your display name is stored locally on your device solely for personalisation and is never shared with us or any third party.

Device Permissions

Markday may request the following device permissions. Each is optional and requested only when you initiate the relevant action:

  • Local Notifications: To deliver countdown reminders at the offsets you choose (1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks, etc.). Requested only when you enable reminders for a countdown for the first time.
  • Calendar (EventKit): A Markday Pro feature. Requested only when you tap "Import from Calendar" or "Export to Calendar" in Settings. We use the access to (a) read upcoming events you select for import, and (b) write the countdowns you choose to export as all-day events in your default calendar. We do not read your calendar in the background and we do not transmit any calendar data off-device.
  • iCloud (CloudKit + iCloud Drive + iCloud Key-Value): Used only when you opt in via the Settings → iCloud Sync toggle and the manual / automatic backup controls. See the dedicated section below.

Permissions we do not request: Camera, Photo Library, Microphone, Location, Contacts, Bluetooth, Tracking (ATT), Health data, Background App Refresh.

iCloud Sync & Backup

Markday offers three independent iCloud features. All three are optional, off-by-default for Pro paths, and your data lives in your own personal iCloud account — not on our servers.

  • CloudKit auto-sync (countdowns): When iCloud Sync is enabled in Settings, your countdowns are stored in a private CloudKit database inside your own iCloud account. This keeps your countdowns consistent across all your Apple devices signed into the same Apple ID. The database is private — only you (and apps you authorise) can read it.
  • iCloud Drive backup: When you tap "Back up now" or enable "Auto backup on changes" in Settings, Markday writes a single backup snapshot into the Documents folder of your personal iCloud Drive. You can browse it in iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Storage → Markday.
  • iCloud key-value settings sync: A few small app-settings fields (display name, appearance preference, notifications toggle, iCloud Sync toggle) are synced across your Apple devices using Apple's iCloud key-value sync.
  • iCloud features are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
  • You can disable each feature independently at any time in the app's Settings screen.
  • Disabling iCloud Sync does not delete your local data.
  • The developer (Pinkod) has no access to your iCloud data at any point.

Local Storage & the Widget

Your countdowns are stored on your device and protected by iOS's standard data protection (AES-256 encryption at rest when your device is locked).

  • The Markday home-screen and Lock Screen widget reads your upcoming countdowns from a private, sandboxed area shared only between Markday and its own widget. No other app on your device can access it.
  • A single boolean flag mirroring your Markday Pro status is also stored in this private area so the widget can render Pro-aware surfaces without launching the app.

In-App Purchases & RevenueCat

In-app purchases are processed by Apple and managed via RevenueCat, a third-party service. Markday Pro is a one-time purchase — there is no subscription or recurring billing.

  • RevenueCat receives an anonymous, auto-generated device identifier and Apple App Store purchase receipt data. This identifier is not linked to your personal identity.
  • RevenueCat does not receive your advertising identifier (IDFA). Markday does not use the App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework and does not collect IDFA.
  • RevenueCat does not receive any of your countdown data, display name, or app settings.
  • We do not have access to your payment card details at any point — all payment processing is performed by Apple.
  • RevenueCat's privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy.

Calendar Access (EventKit)

Calendar import and export are Markday Pro features. They are strictly user-initiated and the access we request is bounded to what those features need.

  • Import: When you tap "Import from Calendar", Markday reads upcoming events from your visible calendars over the next 365 days, presents them in a multi-select picker, and creates a countdown for each event you confirm. The original calendar event is not modified.
  • Export: When you tap "Export to Calendar", Markday writes the countdowns you confirm as all-day events in your default calendar. A small mapping is kept on-device so re-running the export updates the existing events instead of creating duplicates.
  • Calendar data is processed entirely on-device. It is never transmitted to us or to any third party.
  • You can revoke calendar access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars.

Notifications

Markday uses local notifications (not push notifications) to deliver countdown reminders you schedule within the app.

  • All notifications are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device by iOS.
  • No push notification server, push token, or remote backend is involved.
  • Reminders fire at 10:00 local time on each offset day you select (e.g. 1 day before, 1 week before).
  • You will be asked for notification permission only the first time you enable reminders.
  • You can revoke notification permission at any time in iOS Settings, or flip the master notifications toggle in Markday's Settings to mute every reminder without revoking the system permission.

Analytics & Tracking

Markday does not use any analytics, crash reporting, or tracking services beyond what Apple provides at the OS level.

  • No Firebase, Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, or any analytics SDK.
  • No Sentry, Crashlytics, or any third-party crash reporting SDK.
  • No advertising networks or ad SDKs.
  • No IDFA collection or cross-app tracking.
  • No social media SDKs.

If you have enabled crash reporting via iOS Settings, Apple may collect anonymised crash reports. This is managed entirely by Apple, not by us.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share limited data only with:

Apple iCloud sync & backup (your own account, opt-in), App Store purchases, crash reports (if enabled in iOS), local notification delivery
RevenueCat Anonymous purchase & entitlement management only
Others None

The developer (Pinkod) does not receive, store, or have access to any of your personal data, countdowns, or app content.

Data Security

We implement appropriate technical measures to protect your information:

  • On-device protection: Your countdowns are protected by iOS's built-in data protection (AES-256 encryption at rest when the device is locked).
  • iCloud transit encryption: All data synced via iCloud is encrypted in transit using TLS and stored encrypted at rest in Apple's infrastructure.
  • Purchase data: Purchase receipts are transmitted over HTTPS. We never receive or store your payment card details.
  • Restore safety: The iCloud backup restore flow validates the backup before touching local data and keeps a single-use undo snapshot so an accidental restore can be reverted from inside the app.
  • No custom encryption: The app does not implement any custom or proprietary encryption.

No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your Rights & Data Deletion

You have full control over your data:

  • Delete a single countdown: Swipe to delete (or tap the trash icon in the edit screen). The countdown and any pending reminders are permanently removed.
  • Delete all local data: Delete the app from your device. All of Markday's local data is permanently erased by iOS.
  • Delete iCloud data: Use the in-app "Delete iCloud Backup" action to remove the iCloud Drive snapshot, or open iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Storage → Markday for a manual override. To purge the CloudKit-synced countdowns, sign out of iCloud or remove the Markday container under iCloud Manage Storage.
  • Purchase data: We (Pinkod) do not store any personal information that could link a Markday Pro purchase to you, and RevenueCat processes the receipt against an anonymous, auto-generated device identifier that we never see and that is not tied to your name, email, or Apple ID. As a result, we are technically unable to locate, identify, or delete a specific purchase record on request — there is no piece of information you could provide that would let us match it to your device's anonymous ID. This is consistent with Article 11 of the UK GDPR and EU GDPR, which does not require a controller to retain or acquire additional personal data solely to enable identification when none is otherwise needed for processing. If you wish to remove your App Store purchase history entry, you can do so directly through Apple via your Apple ID account → Subscriptions & Purchase History.

Data Retention

We retain your data only as long as necessary:

Local data (countdowns, settings) Retained on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app
CloudKit countdowns Stored in your private iCloud account; remain until you sign out of iCloud or remove the Markday container
iCloud Drive JSON backup Remains in your iCloud account until you delete it from inside Markday or via iOS Settings, even after app removal
RevenueCat purchase records Anonymous records retained for the period required by applicable tax, accounting, and legal obligations; cannot be linked back to you by us, so individual deletion is not technically possible (UK / EU GDPR Article 11)
Apple crash reports Managed solely by Apple per their retention policy

Children's Privacy

Markday is rated 4+ and does not target children specifically. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. No account creation or personal data submission is required to use the app.

If you believe a child has provided personal information through our contact channels, please contact us at [email protected] and we will address it promptly.

Apple App Store Privacy Labels

In accordance with Apple's App Privacy requirements, our privacy labels reflect the following:

  • Data Not Collected: Contact Info, Health & Fitness, Financial Info, Location, Sensitive Info, Contacts, Photos, Browsing History, Search History, Device IDs (including IDFA / IDFV), Diagnostics, Product Interaction.
  • Data Linked to You: None.
  • Data Not Linked to You: Purchase History and User ID — collected by RevenueCat via an anonymous, auto-generated identifier for App Functionality purposes only (verifying purchase status, unlocking Markday Pro features, and restoring previous purchases).
  • User Content: Stored only in your own iCloud account when you enable iCloud Sync or backup. Not transmitted to us.

Your Rights (GDPR & UK GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, you have the following rights regarding your personal data under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR:

  • Right of access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Right to erasure: Request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Right to restrict processing: Request that we limit the way we use your data.
  • Right to object: Object to processing based on legitimate interests.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (in the UK: the Information Commissioner's Office — ico.org.uk).

Our lawful basis for processing your data is performance of a contract (in-app purchase management via RevenueCat) and legitimate interests (local countdown data processing enabling core app functionality).
